Summary of Role:

This is a highly visible, hands-on, technical leadership role which will contribute to strategic direction while managing development of the microinverters for SunPower's ACPV business. The successful candidate will be able to translate market requirements along with Product Managers into a microinverter roadmap, create clear architectural specifications, and then develop products. This role requires developing the product from concept, to prototype and into mass production through contract manufacturing along with our internal supply chain. This individual must communicate effectively with engineers from different disciplines as well as other cross functional team members and be comfortable working in highly dynamic environment. Working very synergistically with Program Management is vital. The role also includes managing, mentoring and building a team of multi-disciplinary engineers.

The successful candidate must also have solid experience in establishing and managing engineering processes and "best practices" to drive engineering rigor and ensure the high product quality is achieved on schedule and on cost.

The ideal person will have a deep understanding of engineering principles, concepts, and industry practices with power conversion products, control algorithms and embedded systems. Experience in design or development of microinverters is desired but not required. Experience with component vendors, external design and testing houses, fabricators and assembly services is required. Knowledge of photovoltaic systems, inverters, monitoring equipment, and their design and implementation is highly desired. Experience with the certification bodies of electronic systems is highly desired. Knowledge of residential and commercial building electrical wiring NEC code and architecture is also highly desired. The ability to comfortably and appropriately communicate with Exec management is a must.

-Manage an in-house team of 8-10 skilled HW design and Regulatory engineers, Technicians and some outsourced resources
-Be an advocate and change agent for best engineering practices and best product development processes.
-Participate in the development of product requirements for microinverter products.
-Participate in cross discipline engineering design reviews.
-Work with Product Management teams and drive an innovative product roadmap.
-Take a leadership role in the execution of complex engineering projects, providing guidance to direct staff of engineers as well as others
-Work with external consultants/ contractors / partners and internal resources to complete designs on time and within budget while meeting production cost targets.
-Drive the transition of the product from concept to design to manufacturing

Minimum Requirements:

-B.S. degree and 6 years management experience in a power electronics development role
-OR equivalent combination of education and years of related experience

Preferred Requirements:

-BS or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
-12+ years of hands-on system development experience, electronic engineering and embedded product design in the area of power electronics.
-5+ years of management experience; skilled at setting expectations and holding people accountable while likewise removing obstacles to their success.
-Experience with ARM microcontrollers and 8051 microcontrollers.
-Experience in developing control algorithms in area of the power electronics
-Strong leadership ability and an ability to lead a technical staff of multi-disciplinary engineers.
-Must have been a core member of a highly successful product development team with leadership responsibilities
-Must be an excellent team-player with strong time-management and creative problem solving skills
-Ability to work in a deadline oriented, and fast paced dynamic environment
-Excellent written and verbal skills.
-Hands-on prototyping capability, and extensive troubleshooting and debugging of electronic systems.
-Knowledge of residential and commercial building electrical wiring NEC code
-Experience working/ participating in standard bodies
-Issued patents/publications in the field of power electronics and/or embedded systems
